"A typical still life set up for art students. Lots of things to get right. Still life paintings present a special challenge to artists because they allow the artist to create and develop their own visual language or style. Portraits and landscapes demand that the artist captures the personality of the sitter or view. Whereas the simplicity of a still-life seems to give the artist much more freedom to invent, explore, and experiment. " CR

TWELVE THINGS by Colin Ruffell.

Signed and numbered Fine-art print

TWELVE THINGS is one of the kitchen and dining room pictures from my portfolio of giclee fine-art prints.

The style of painting is called ‘cloisonnism’ where black lines surround the areas of colour. The term was coined in post-impressionist France in 1888. I adopted the technique after watching my own kids paint pictures. Children’s art has also inspired the way that I distort perspective. It is an interesting picture-language and great fun to paint.

This is how I do it.

First I paint the original painting then I scan the image to make a master digital file. I own a wide format Epson giclee printer, which means that I can make my own test proofs, then print-on-demand to the highest international standards providing a valuable investment for your fine-art collection.
